About Meghalaya Education Department & Technical Education System
Department of Education Meghalaya मेघालय में शिक्षा व्यवस्था के विकास में महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका निभाता है और राज्य के Higher Education एवं Technical Institutions के संचालन एवं विकास के लिए कार्य करता है।
मेघालय में आधुनिक शिक्षा का इतिहास अपेक्षाकृत नया माना जाता है। राज्य में Formal Education की शुरुआत वर्ष 1842 में हुई जब Welsh Missionary Rev Thomas Jones ने Khasi Alphabet विकसित किया। इसके बाद Garo Hills क्षेत्र में वर्ष 1902 में American Missionaries द्वारा Roman Script आधारित Garo Alphabet तैयार किया गया।
इसी के साथ Christian Missionaries ने Khasi, Jaintia एवं Garo Hills क्षेत्रों में आधुनिक शिक्षा प्रणाली की शुरुआत की। प्रारंभिक समय में राज्य में केवल कुछ Elementary Schools संचालित थे क्योंकि Colonial Period में शिक्षित समाज की आवश्यकता सीमित थी।
History of Higher Education in Meghalaya
मेघालय में पहला कॉलेज 1924 में Shillong में स्थापित किया गया था, जिसे Christian Brothers of Ireland द्वारा शुरू किया गया।
वर्षों के दौरान Shillong शिक्षा का प्रमुख केंद्र बन गया और यहां कई प्रतिष्ठित Schools एवं Colleges स्थापित हुए। इन संस्थानों के पूर्व छात्र देश एवं विदेशों में महत्वपूर्ण पदों पर कार्यरत हैं।
Shillong लंबे समय से प्रसिद्ध विद्वानों एवं बुद्धिजीवियों का पसंदीदा स्थान रहा है। यहां Rabindranath Tagore तथा C. V. Raman जैसे महान व्यक्तित्व भी आए।
